What Data We Collect and Why

Comments
When you leave a comment on our site, we collect the information you enter in the comments form, along with your IP address and browser user agent string, to assist in spam detection.

An anonymized hash generated from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. You can find the Gravatar service’s privacy policy here:

Once your comment is approved, your profile picture (if available) will be publicly visible alongside your comment.

Media
If you upload images to the website, we recommend removing any embedded location data (EXIF GPS) from the images. Visitors can download and extract location information from images on the site.

Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter your details in the future. These cookies will be stored for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and screen display preferences. Login cookies remain for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will be saved for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and only indicates the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded Content
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.) from other websites. Such content behaves exactly as if you visited the source website.

These third-party sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content—including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How Long We Retain Your Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to automatically recognize and approve follow-up comments instead of holding them for moderation.

For registered users, we also store the personal information provided in their user profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit this information.

Who We Share Your Data With
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your Data Rights
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any information you’ve provided. You may also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
